DA-2 submits 20 national entries for Gawad Saka 2012
TUGUEGARAO CITY, June 5 (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 2 has already submitted its list of entries as contenders in the National Gawad Saka 2012 search.
Hector Tabbun, agricultural communication chief, said they have selected the national entries based on the results of the regional search, which was conducted in the first quarter of the year in the whole region.
Included the list are Herminigildo Juan Visitacion of Sta. Ana, Cagayan as Outstanding Rice Farmer Adopting Integrated Rice-Based Farming Systems; Outstanding Hybrid Rice Farmer - Franklin G. Cortez in San Antonio, llagan, Isabela; Outstanding Corn Farmer - Dante D. Cayapan also in San Antonio, llagan, Isabela; Outstanding Coconut Farmer - Edgardo T. Martin in Centro East, Ballesteros, Cagayan; Outstanding High Value Commercial Farmer - Simeon M. Felipe Daligan in Jones, Isabela; Outstanding Small Animal Raiser - Rolando C. Mari in Saranay, Cabatuan, Isabela; Outstanding Large Animal Raiser - Ernesto E. Lagunte in Burgos, Cabarroguis, Quirino; Outstanding Fisherfolk (Fish Capture) - Rondel A. dela Cruz in Palaui, Sta. Ana, Cagayan; Outstanding Fisherfolk (Fish Culture) - Ferdinand B. Mari in Sta. Cruz, Alicia, Isabela; Outstanding Young Farmer/Fisherfolk - Dexter B. Agnir in Claveria, Cagayan; Outstanding Organic Agriculture Farmer - Daisy A. Langenegger in Salvacion, Alicia, Isabela; and Outstanding Agri-Scientist - Rose Mary Aquino in llagan, Isabela.
In the group category, Outstanding Agri-Entrepreneur - Lighthouse Cooperative of Tuguegarao City; Outstanding Young Farmer/Fisherfolk Organization is the Hilltop 4H Club Sta. Clara, Gonzaga, Cagayan; Outstanding Small Farmer/ Fisherfolk Organization - Abrasa Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Diffun, Quirino; Outstanding Rural Improvement Club -Mataas Na Kahoy RIC Mataas Na Kahoy in Alicia, Isabela; Outstanding Municipal Agriculture and Fisheries Council- MAFC Villaverde in Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya; Outstanding Provincial Agriculture and Fisheries Council - PAFC Cagayan; Barangay Food Terminal (non-government organization-operated) - St. Joseph BFT Belance, Dupax Norte, Nueva Vizcaya; and the Outstanding FARMC - FARMC Claveria in Claveria, Cagayan.
Tabbun believed that some of the entries will again get a national award for this year as they have evaluated and validated each well of the national entries.
Since the birth of the Gawad Saka award, Cagayan Valley is bringing home national awards in different categories. This year, DA-2 officials are optimistic that they will snatch majority of the major awards. (OTB-PIA 2)
