Mothers should give birth in health facilities, DOH says
TUGUEGARAO CITY, March 28 (PIA) -- An official of the Department of Health Region 2 reiterated the department's call to all mothers to deliver in the health facilities, not in their houses.
Assistant Regional Director Tita Callueng said that reports show that despite massive campaign to pregnant women to deliver in health facilities, there are still those who deliver in their respective homes which, most of the times, result into complications that lead to maternal and child mortality.
Callueng explained that this is one of the reasons why the department is doing massive enhancements of rural and provincial health units to upgrade the health facilities to encourage pregnant women to deliver in the health facilities as well as to ensure better service.
"To decongest our hospitals, we advise pregnant women that they should deliver in the health facility such as Rural Health Units and Provincial Health Units to avoid complications that result to child and maternal mortality," Callueng said.
She explained that the department wants to achieve the millennium development goal to reduce maternal and infant mortality, which is why the government is now set to upgrade its health facilities to improve health status and services.
She further stated that maternal and infant mortality is one of the challenges that the government wanted to address with the cooperation of the concerned individuals as well as other stakeholders. (OTB-PIA 2)
