Tuesday 21st of February 2012TUGUEGARAO CITY, Feb. 21 (PIA) -- Thirty employees of the Department of Health (DOH) Region 2 who were found to be overweight were enlisted in the first weight-losing challenge dubbed “Greatest KP” or “Katawang Pangporma” program.
Dr. Rio Magpantay, regional director, said the program aims to advocate healthy lifestyle by applying the recommended diet, physical exercises and other disciplinary tips to lose weight in a period of six months.
Magpantay added that this is a way of encouraging the public to observe healthy lifestyle through the health service providers as models in achieving physical fitness that eventually lessen prevalence of diseases that lead to mortalities.
He explained that a technical working group will facilitate the monthly weight monitoring of each contender. Elimination will also be done if contenders will not lose weight in the monthly monitoring until the biggest loser will be awarded by August and to serve as model of their healthy lifestyle advocacy.
“Our aim is to show to the public that an obese or overweight body can be easily transformed into a very ideal one through healthy lifestyle and self-discipline,” Magpantay stated.
He further mentioned that after the pilot episode of the program with DOH-2 employees, the program will also be implemented through an inter-agency strategy to widen the scope of a healthy lifestyle program. (TCB/OTB-PIA 2)
