CABARROGUIS, Quirino, Aug 9 (PIA) -- It's the fishers turn to learn new technologies on air, and more. The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Region 2 (BFAR-2) has launched Sunday an educational program for fishers dubbed, “School on Air.”

The program is aired over DZNC Bombo Radyo, Cauayan City every Sunday at 11 a.m. to 12 noon.

The educational program, which will run from August 5 to September 30, aims to disseminate fisheries technologies and other fisheries-related matters to the fishers and at the same time educate them on how to improve their projects for increased production.

In its initial episode, BFAR-2 Director Jovita Ayson, who served as guest-discussant, said the fisheries bureau is holding continuous education for the proper caring and conservation of marine resources.

“Fish is Life (Livelihood, Income, Future Generation and Ecological Stability). We should protect the marine resources from the destructive chemicals and wastes as well as the perils brought by abusive and illegal fishing,” Ayson said.

Florence Mangoba, senior agriculturist of the provincial agriculture office and in-charge of the fisheries section, said 100 fishers from the six municipalities are currently enrolled in the free educational program.

“They were provided with radios, notebooks, pens and answer sheets to be used in their studies. They will listen to the different lectures every Sunday and then answer the questions at the end of the program,” Mangoba said.

A fishery extension officer is assigned in every municipality to collect the answer sheets, monitor and assess extent of the program. (TCB-PIA2, Quirino)
