Provincial health office to hold “Buntis Congress”
CABARROGUIS, Quirino, May 28 (PIA) -- The provincial health office is inviting all pregnant women from the six municipalities of the province to join the “Buntis Congress,” to be held at the main lobby of the capitol building on June 3.
The activity, which is one of the highlights of the birthday celebration of Gov. Junie Cua, will serve as a venue for improving the knowledge of pregnant women on areas such as reproductive health, pre- and post-natal care, and infant and young child feeding.
“We have no cases of maternal mortality for the past two years but we have recorded infant deaths due to improper feeding and post-natal care so we have to educate the pregnant women to prevent such cases,” Provincial Health Officer Tagumpay Felismino said stressing that this is one way of attaining the Millennium Development Goals of reducing infant and maternal mortality rate in the country.
Lectures on the importance of breastfeeding, complementary feeding, nutritional needs of the growing child, and other important topics such as malaria and dengue prevention, will also be conducted.
The pregnant women will also be given package of services and vitamins such as free pre-natal check up, blood count, blood pressure, urinalysis, iron, and long-lasting insecticidal mosquito nets. (TCB/PIA 2)
