TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, March 12 (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 2 conducted an orientation on the agency’s Department Order (DO) No. 18-A to some 50 contractors, subcontractors, and their principals from all over the region.

The DOLE’s DO No. 18-A, series of 2011 is otherwise known as “Rules Implementing Articles 106 to 109 of the Labor Code, As Amended,” defining primarily where contracting and subcontracting are considered legitimate.

DOLE 2 Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriquez Jr. said the orientation, which was held on Thursday, March 8, at Hotel Carmelita in this City, is an offshoot of the increasing number of labor cases involving contractors and subcontractors in the region. “This is to ensure the compliance of private companies to labor standards,” Rodriguez added.

Atty. Rodriguez further said the DOLE’s DO No. 18-A provides the regulations governing contracting and subcontracting arrangements for the promotion of employment and observance of the rights of workers to just and humane conditions of work, security of tenure, self-organization, and collective bargaining. The rules provided applies to all parties of contracting and subcontracting arrangements where employer-employee relationship exists.

The DOLE’s DO 18-A was signed by Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz on November 19, 2011 and took effect December 5, 2011. (TCB/RBE-PIA 2)
