Women’s and children’s protection desk of Baguio is best in the country
BAGUIO CITY, Nov. 9(PIA)--It seems that women and children concerns are answered promptly in Baguio City, the reason why its Women and Child Protection Desk (WCPD) was recognized as the country’s Best Women and Children Protection Desk of 2011.
City officials led by Mayor Mauricio Domogan with City Director Police Senior Superintendent Jesus Cambay and WCPD head Police Senior Inspector Divina Mencio presented the Plaque of Merit during the Monday flag ceremony at the Baguio City Hall grounds.
The award was given to the WCPD in view of the outstanding performance in the management and handling of cases involving crimes against chastity, sexual harassment, women and children abuse, and promotion of women and children concerns, thereby contributing immeasurably to the attainment of the over-all mission and objectives of the PNP.
Mencio said that the city’s WCPD stood out among other units in the country because of the high volume of cases entertained and filed against perpetrators of crimes against women and children. She said the high crime solution efficiency of the women’s and children’s desk resulted to their winning the award for the first time.
She added that the establishment of a shelter for women and children through the support of the city government boosts their chances of winning this year’s award. The city competed against Iloilo and Calamba for the award in the national finals.(JDP/RC-PIA CAR)
