BAGUIO CITY, Benguet, June 3(PIA) -- The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) has announced that the PMA continues to adhere to the “No Hazing Policy.”

PMA achieved a 90 percent accomplishment on the policy being implemented in the premiere military academy and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, said Navy Flag Officer in Command Vice Admiral Alexander Pama, who was the guest of honor and speaker during the Incorporation rites of the 128-strong cadets of the “Makabagong Henerasyong Kawal na Alay ay Kalayaan” or “Gabay Laya” Class of 2016 at the Fort del Pilar last week.

Pama said that this year, the PMA recorded only one incident of hazing but did not mention details of the incident.

“They almost made it to zero incident which is a very welcome development. And times change, with the generation right now, leadership could be defined in some other ways,” said Pama.

Meanwhile, PMA Superintendent Maj. Gen. Nonato Alfredo Peralta did not disclose the identity of the person behind the hazing incident, but said that this man was already discharged from the academy and would never be accepted back in the PMA. He assured that even if the cadet was discharged, he will still be facing legal charges. He also encouraged the family of the victim to file separate charges against the perpetrator.

He also stressed that they are strictly adhering to the “No Hazing Policy” and encouraged incoming cadets to report all maltreatment that comes to their attention.

The No Hazing Policy is strictly being implemented in the PMA as part of the transformation program of the premiere military school in Southeast Asia. (JDP/RC-PIA CAR)
