DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan, Aug 4 (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has extended inspection and issuance of the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers for motorcycle helmets until December 31.

Marjury Lorezco, chief trade and industry development specialist (CIDS) of DTI- Pangasinan said the original deadline was supposedly on July 31 but a new memorandum from the Department of Transportation and Communication moved the deadline to December 31 to give riders more time to bring their helmets to DTI for inspection.

Those who will register until September 30, 2012 can get the stickers for free. Beginning October, a minimal fee will be charged, Lorezco said.

Republic Act 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Act mandates the inspection, validation and marking of ICC stickers to helmets.

Only helmets that pass the quality standard will be issued the stickers. Riders who wish to avail of the ICC must bring a photocopy of a government-issued identification card such as driver’s license.

Application forms can be secured from DTI offices and the DTI-Bureau of Product Standard’s weblink: http://www.bps.dti.gov.ph/downloadable-forms.html (JCR/VHS-PIA1 Pangasinan)
