DSWD conducts orientation on 4Ps for student beneficiaries
SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, July 19 (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) held an orientation program on the Panatawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) for 741 student-beneficiaries of Rosario Integrated School (RIS).
Allan O. Lulu, DSWD information officer, said beneficiaries must appreciate the long term impact of following the program requirements such as attending school regularly. They should comply not only because they need the cash grants, he said.
Lulu added that education will help beneficiaries overcome poverty and achieve their dreams.
Officer-In-Charge Jessie Andrada of RIS said the program helps students with their school necessities but they should attend classes regularly and study hard.
Grace Siapno, RIS nurse, said the students should avail themselves of deworming pills twice a year.
Other programs and services particularly on the social pension program such as the supplementary feeding program, sustainable livelihood program and the basic rights of a child were also discussed in the orientation.
Carl Jude Basallo, a 3rd year high school student said, “Natutunan ko ang dapat sundin ng mga anak ng benepisyaryo kagaya ko (I learned the conditions that beneficiaries like me need to comply with).”
He added, “Nalaman kong responsibilidad ng magulang na pag-aralin kami kahit na wala nang cash grants para sa aming kinabukasan.” (I learned that it is the parents’ responsibility to send us to school even without cash grants). (ANL/EMR-PIA 1 La Union with report from DSWD)
