No classes today in La Union for elem and high school
SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union June 13 (PIA) -- Classes in pre-elementary, elementary and high-school levels in the province were suspended today due to heavy downpour, which started last night until this morning.
The Department of Education – Division of La Union (DepEd-LU) Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Edna C. Leal said she received text messages informing her that most areas in La Union were experiencing rainfall, prompting her to suspend classes.
Leal added that the DepEd order covers both public and private schools. But, she said, they have observed that were still schools who conducted classes after the suspension announcement. She cautioned these schools that this will be at their own risk.
On issues that the suspension was a bit late, Leal gave the assurance that in the future the DepEd will make announcements of similar nature earlier, around 5 a.m.
According to her, at times like this, it is actually the discretion of the Division office of DepEd and the local government officials to suspend classes as needed.
San Fernando City Mayor Pablo Ortega also made pronouncements this morning over the radio regarding the suspension of classes in same levels in all schools here in the city.
As of this writing, heavy rainfall had ceased and the weather in some parts of the province is now cloudy. (ANL/MPA-PIA 1 La Union)
