MANILA, July 31 (PIA) -- The United States Embassy in Manila is now accepting nominations for a study grant in the U.S. for Filipino citizens.

In a statement, Cultural Affairs Specialist for American Studies Tony Perez said the 2013 Study of the U.S. Institute for Student Leaders on New Media in Journalism Program is addressed to Filipino students between 18 and 25 years.

Aside from enhancing their leadership skills, Perez said the program will also provide student leaders with a deeper understanding of U.S. The program will also include topics in journalism and other components such as U.S. history, government and foreign policy, and American life and culture.

The institute will take place over the course of five weeks in the American summer of 2013, Perez said.

The U.S. government will pay for the participants’ expenses including round-trip airfare, accommodation and health insurance. Competition is merit-based, and Filipinos from modest or "non-elite" backgrounds are welcome to apply.

Perez said the deadline for nomination is not later than October 1, 2012.
