Certified list of 2013 candidates now at Comelec website

CEBU CITY, Jan 29 (PIA) -- Cebuanos can now access the official list of candidates for the Province of Cebu at the website of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Comelec Provincial Director Lionel Castillano said voters can now access the full list of candidates from the provincial contenders down to the Municipal Councilors.

Castillano said one only need to log on to www.comelec.gov.ph and click on the List of Candidates icon found at the upper left side of the page.

A voter or a candidate can choose to search by name or by area or position of the candidate.

There are 43 names in the Certified List of Candidates for Cebu provincial positions for this coming May elections based on the list from Comelec Law Department dated January 18, 2013.

There are four official candidates for the position of Governor, one of whom is incumbent 3rd District of the Province Representative Pablo John Garcia.

Garcia, of the National Unity Party, is the brother of suspended governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Former Cebu City Councilor Hilario Davide III, of the Liberal Party (LP), will vie for the gubernatorial post for the second time. He lost to Garcia in 2010 with a margin of over 60,000 votes. Joining them are two private individuals, Boyet Cortes and Lito Bulala.

For the vice-gubernatorial post, businessman Glenn Soco is making his comeback as under Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) along with Boboy Durano under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and acting governor Agnes Magpale under LP.

Congressional candidates under LP include incumbent Provincial Board Member Wilfredo for the 2nd District; incumbent Pinamungahan Mayor Gerladine Yapha for the 3rd District; former Congressman and Bogo City Mayor Celestino Martinez III for the 4th District; former Department of Tourism Secretary Ace Durano for the 5th District and incumbent Congressman Luigi Quisimbing for the 6th District.

Those vying for congressional seats under UNA are incumbent Congressman Pablo Garcia Sr. for the 2nd District; suspended governor Gwendolyn Garcia for the 3rd District; incumbent Congressman Benhur Salimbangon for the 4th District and Nerissa Soon-Ruiz for the 6th District.

Lone candidate for first district Congressman is Samsam Gullas of NP, grandson of incumbent first district congressman Eduardo Gullas. For the second district, former Congressman Simeon Kintanar is making a comeback as an independent candidate. In the 4th District, former Compostela Mayor Gilbert Wagas is running for Congress.

In Cebu City, there are 47 names under the Certified List of Candidates for congressional and local positions.

Castillano said the list went through the law department of their central office.

The list will soon be scheduled for printing of ballots and configuration of CF Cards.
