Marikina orders registration of motorcycles
MARIKINA CITY, Sept 1 (PIA) -- The city government of Marikina through the City Transportation Management and Development Office (CTMDO) is now requiring motorcycle owners to register their motorcycles to prevent motorcycle-related crimes.
In a release, the city council passed Ordinance No. 38, Series of 2012, requiring all motorcycle owners in the city to register their motorcycles to the CTMDO and renew every three years, for free.
“This is the city government’s action in protecting its residents from different kinds of crimes, that’s why we are encouraging everyone to cooperate,” Marikina Mayor Del de Guzman said.
Statistics of the Philippine National Police said, 1,700 crimes involving motorcycle-riding suspects were recorded last year, with 2,089 victims all over the country.
A sticker with corresponding control number will be issued to motorcycle owners upon registration. The said stickers are color-coded according to their respective barangay.
Motorcycle owners are also required to report any change of ownership of the motorcycle registered under the name within one month upon the date of actual sale or transfer of the motorcycle unit.
Violators in terms of registration will pay a fine of P1,000. Meanwhile, anyone who lends, transfers and tampers the stickers will pay a fine of P1,500.
Meanwhile, the city government is currently working on its Implementing Rules and Regulation (IRR) for the immediate implementation of the said ordinance. (MARIKINA-PIO/RJB/JEG-PIA NCR)
