Authorities arrest female Vietnamese drug mule at NAIA
QUEZON CITY, August 15 (PIA) -- Authorities has arrested a female Vietnamese national for attempting to smuggle almost three kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu into the country.
In a statement, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) chief Jose S. Gutierrez Jr. said the suspect arrived in the country August 14 from Bangkok, Thailand.
Almost three kilograms of shabu were discovered from her luggage through a routine inspection conducted by the duty custom examiner.
According to PDEA, the arrest of Yen came on the heels of another drug mule four days ago identified as Sun Bahadur Tamang, a Nepalese national.
The suspect is the 16th courier arrested by the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group for this year.
She will face charges for Section 5 (Transportation of Dangerous Drugs), Article II, of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Upon conviction, she is liable to suffer life imprisonment and a fine ranging from P500,000 to P10 million.
