PARAÑAQUE CITY, June 13 (PIA) -- As part of its commitment to provide more work opportunities for residents, the local government said that it will continue the implementation of its “Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers” (TUPAD) program.

This was announced by Parañaque Resource Livelihood Management Office (PLRMO) head Ms. Doris Marquez and Youth and Sports Development Office (YSDO) adviser Carlo Bernabe to workers under the said program.

In a statement sent to PIA-NCR, the local government said the continuation of the program, which provides income for residents, was made possible in cooperation with the Department of Labor and Employment and the Office of City Councilor Benjo Bernabe.

“Since its implementation, the TUPAD program has benefited residents as they are now able to earn an income by cleaning and maintaining the city’s infrastructure. We believe that such a program is vital in helping our unemployed and under-employed constituents make ends meet, hence the reason for our support to continue the program,” Mayor Jun Bernabe said.

Under the program, beneficiaries are expected to do various jobs such as cleaning of city sidewalks, maintenance of plant boxes in traffic islands and clearing of drainage. The latest batch of workers were from the city’s first and second districts, while another batch under the said program is scheduled to begin work in July.

Launched in 2009, TUPAD aims to provide part time jobs for unemployed and under employed residents of the city.

Meanwhile, the city government also continues to hold job fairs, livelihood courses, and training to help residents find employment and/or learn certain skills in order to find a job or start their own business. (PARAÑAQUE-PIO/RJB/JEG-PIA-NCR)
