QUEZON CITY, June 9 (PIA) -- Public Works and Highways (DPWH) chief Rogelio L. Singson announced recently that construction of the underpass along Quezon Avenue crossing Araneta Avenue (C-3 Road) in Quezon City will be completed soon, ahead of its September deadline.

In a news release, the DPWH chief said that based on the report of the DPWH’s Urban Road Projects Office-Project Management Office (URPO-PMO), the said interchange project is now 70 percent complete.

The early completion of the P430-million worth project will help speed up traffic and reduce pollution in the area by lessening gas emissions during traffic, he added.

He also said that once the interchange project is completed, it will help decongest traffic along EDSA and nearby major thoroughfares.

The interchange project that started June last year includes a 4-lane underpass along Quezon Avenue crossing Araneta Avenue, installation of submersible pumps to manage flooding in the area, and construction of reinforced concrete box and pipe culverts.

Meanwhile to ensure smooth flow of traffic at the project area, the DPWH in coordination with the MMDA has intensified the continuous implementation of traffic management plan by deploying traffic enforcers in three shift schedule particularly at the intersection of Quezon Avenue and Araneta Avenue, and other nearby intersections.
