School opening, generally peaceful – PNP chief
QUEZON CITY, June 5 (PIA) -- Philippine National Police chief Nicanor A. Bartolome on Monday said the opening of classes was generally peaceful and orderly.
In a release, Bartolome said the PNP’s National Operations Center in Camp Crame did not monitor any untoward incident.
“I am personally satisfied with the deployment of troops for police beat patrol and visibility operations in Manila’s University Belt Area, and in the vicinity of school premises elsewhere around the country,” said Bartolome.
Around 21 million students returned to school yesterday for the start of the school year.
Earlier, Bartolome directed all PNP regional offices and support units to implement a nationwide security and public safety plan to ensure the safety of students from street crimes, as well as organized crime groups.
The PNP chief alerted local police units to mobilize foot patrol personnel, as well as intensify police visibility operations in school premises to achieve a “zero crime incident” in all school and university areas.
Bartolome also directed all police personnel to closely coordinate with local government units to strictly implement laws and local ordinances that govern the operation of computer gaming shops, recreation centers such as billiard halls and gaming establishments, to include establishments that serve alcohol beverages within the perimeter of school campuses.
In Metro Manila, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Alan Purisima directed all police stations to put up Students and Parents Assistance Desks (SPADs) to assist students, teachers, and parents. (PNP/RJB/JEG-PIA NCR)
