DTI, LTO extend ICC stickering of helmets

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Aug 2 (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has extended the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) application for motorcycle riders until December 31 this year.

The extension will give way to the demand of millions of motorcycle riders to avail of free services in ICC application, DTI Division Chief Ricardo Naguit said.

The deadline was originally September 30.

Naguit said there were only about 25,000 riders in the region who were able to apply for the ICC sticker.

“DTI is giving the extension to fully implement Section 6 of Republic Act 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009, obliging all motorcycle riders including back riders to wear ICC and Philippine Standard (PS)-marked helmets,” Naguit said.

Naguit said there are no changes on the penalties for violation. A fine of P1,500 is posted for the first offense; P3,000, second offense; and P10,000, third offense.

For the fourth and succeeding offenses, violators will have to pay P10,000 in fine and face confiscation of driver’s license.

The DTI encourages motorcycle riders to go to any DTI office nationwide for the application on ICC sticker. (WLB/ATC-PIA3)
