NSO 12 reveals Family Health Survey data
KORONADAL CITY, July 26 (PIA) -- The National Statistics Office (NSO 12) conducted the Regional Data Dissemination Forum on Tuesday, July 24 in Koronadal City where the 2011 Family Health Survey (FHS) results were presented to audiences composed of health workers, media practitioners, academicians, NSO employees as well as other government employees.
The said forum focused on the status of the health services that are being offered, the implications of family planning, mortality and pregnancy rates and other health-related issues in Region 12.
NSO 12 Regional Director Maqtahar Manulon said the forum is very important because it is an opportunity where they can show the results of the survey to concerned individuals and that they can formulate steps to improve or further enhance the health status in SOCCSKSARGEN region.
“The FHS is an initiative of the Aquino administration in determining the health condition of the Filipinos in order to formulate proper actions. The administration promotes development in the country and everyone should share the fruits of this development” Manulon.
Based on the results of the 2011 FHS presented, Region 12 has 13.6% teenagers ages 15-19 who have experienced teenage pregnancy, has a total fertility rate of 3.3% of persons ages 25-29 who are residing in rural areas and has 44.1 % of families practicing family planning.
The results also showed that SOCCSKSARGEN region ranked number 3 with 40.3% of mothers who are breastfeeding their children from 6-35 months.
Also, it revealed that the most-used contraceptive is the pill with 22.6% while rhythm or periodic abstinence with 3.3% topped the list among traditional methods mostly used.
With these results, Commission on Population (POPCOM 12) Regional Director Edwin Mateo Quijano said there is a need to upgrade the health education of the people especially the youth.
The Regional Data Dissemination Forum was also attended by NSO heads in the provinces of the region where they shared their opinions about the results.
The mentioned forum aims to present true and valid results about the health status in the region. (SJDuerme-PIA12)
