Local nutrition committees pledge support for PPAN
QUEZON CITY, July 7 (PIA) -- Members of a muti-sectoral group on Wednesday signed their pledge of commitment supporting President Benigno S. Aquino III’s Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2012-2016 aimed to address food security issues.
Those who expressed support included civil servants, private and government medical doctors and nutritionists, among them were Dr. Elizabeth C. Ifurung-Gonzales of Makati Medical Center (MMC) and Department of Interior and Local Government–National Capital Region (DILG-NCR) Regional Director Renato Brion and Department of Health Center for Health and Development in Metro Manila Assistant Regional Director Adriano Suba-an.
The event happened during the advocacy meeting on PPAN with Local Nutrition Committees (LNCs) of Metro Manila at the Mandaluyong City Hall Complex on Wednesday afternoon, July 4.
The organizing National Nutrition Council (NNC) said PPAN is the country's response to malnutrition.
An integral component of the Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan 2011-2016, PPAN provides the framework for improving the nutritional status of Filipinos. The PPAN has been updated to be more responsive to recent socio-political and economic developments. A series of multisectoral and multilevel consultations among key stakeholders was conducted to define the key directions, priorities, and targets for nutrition action for the remaining two years of the plan period.
