ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, May 28 (PIA) -- The Antipolo City Library and local government has been working together to establish and equip 16 Barangay Reading Centers to promote learning in the locale.

"Our barangay reading centers serve as mini-libraries which help students especially those who live in far and hard to reach areas,” said Antipolo City vice mayor Susan Say reiterating the importance of barangay reading centers.

She added that many start to rely on modern technology such as the Internet where getting information is faster. However, even when information can easily be obtained through these means, the library can also be a place to hone one’s sensibility when one exchange ideas and points of view with the other people who go there.

A total of 29 representatives from the different barangays of Antipolo recently attended a one-day seminar at the Antipolo Library with the theme “Public Libraries: Working together for a more effective and responsive services.” Also present during the seminar were Antipolo City Librarian Soledad Ube, City Administrator Melvin Cruz and Marikina City Librarian Vic Jason Cruz.

Some Antipolo Barangay Reading Centers are members of the National Library where free seminars, books and computer units may be provided. (Antipolo PIO/CPG/GG-PIA4A)
