NSO to celebrate 72nd founding anniversary on Aug 19
ROMBLON, Romblon, Aug 17 (PIA) -- The National Statistics Office (NSO) Romblon will conduct a tree planting activity and coastal clean up in Brgy. Lonos, Romblon, Romblon to celebrate its 72nd anniversary on August 19.
The theme for this year’s celebration is, “72 na si NSO, todo serbisyo,” highlighting the many years NSO had been in service to the Filipinos.
NSO was founded as the Bureau of Census and Statistics on Aug. 19, 1940 by virtue of the enactment of Commonwealth Act 591. It became the National Census and Statistics Office in 1974 and was renamed National Statistics Office in 1987.
NSO is the government’s major statistical agency responsible for collecting, compiling, classifying, producing, publishing and disseminating general-purpose statistics as provided for in Commonwealth Act 591, an act creating a bureau of the census and statistics to consolidate statistical activities of the government.
It is also responsible for carrying out and administering the provision of the Civil Registry Law as provided for in Republic Act No. 3753 establishing a civil register to record the civil status of persons, more specifically births, deaths, marriages, annulments, divorces, legitimations, adoptions, acknowledgments of natural children, naturalizations, and changes of names.
A thanksgiving mass will also be held on August 19 to be officiated by Rev. Fr. Joraype Amadeo M. Flores. (NSO-Romblon/LBR/DM/PIA-IVB/Romblon)
