Deped-CAR awards outstanding ALS implementers, workers
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, June 5 (PIA) -- The Department of Education-Cordillera (DepEd-CAR) honored the different educational institutions, workers, and local government units (LGUs) who have excelled in the implementation of the Alternative Learning System (ALS), during the ALS Regional Awarding Ceremony and Conference last May 24 at the DepEd regional office in Wangal, here.
The award for the "Most Efficient Schools Division that Support the Alternative Learning System City Schools Division Level Category" went to the Baguio Schools Division under then Schools Division Superintendent Ellen B. Donato, who is now the DepEd CAR regional director.
The Provincial Schools Division Level Category went to the Benguet Schools Division and was received by Nancy G. Lumbas, the Schools Division Superintendent.
For the category of the Outstanding Local Government Units, the awards for Highly Urbanized City Level Category, LGU Provincial Level Category, and LGU Barangay Level Category went to Baguio City, Benguet Province, and Gibraltar Barangay of Baguio City , respectively.
The City Mayor Mauricio Domogan, Benguet Governor Nestor Fongwan , and Gibraltar Punong Barangay Roy Tao-ey received their respective awards.
For the Outstanding Literacy Program, Miguel Juan, the President of Philex Mines, Benguet, received the award for the Indigenous Host Communities Association Philex Outlying Sitios, Inc.
June Joane S. Soliba of Baguio City received the award for Outstanding District ALS Coordinator, while Eleanor C. Dig-o of Tublay, Benguet received the Outstanding ALS Mobile Teacher award.
The Mountain Province Schools Division represented by the Schools Division Superintendent Mary A. Lang-Ayan won the Provincial Schools Division Level Category and the said province also won the LGU Provincial Level Category.
As for the LGU Municipal Level Category, Tayum, Abra Mayor Placido P. Eduarte, Jr. received the award. The town of Tayum received another honor with the LGU Barangay Category, an award that went to the Velasco Barangay and received by Punong Barangay Victor Q. Escelante .
The Mobile Teacher Category went to Ponciano Ibag of Baguio City.
The Community Learning Center Category was awarded to the Balik Paaralan para sa Out-of-School-Youths & Adults (BP-OSA), while the Service Provider Category went to Bagnus ti Biag Incorporated and was received by Edwina T. Preza, the BOT Chairman, and Benguet Learning Center and received by Myrna T. Nazarro, its president.
The Special Award for Outstanding Division Education Program Supervisor went to Arthur Tiongan of Baguio City and Pepe S. Tubal of Benguet.
The winners received plaques of honor, certificates, and cash prizes.
The ALS is a program of the DepEd that provides free education to those who cannot afford schooling, especially to the out-of-school youths and adults.
In his remarks, DepEd Chief Administrative Officer Delfin E. Sallidao encouraged OSYs and adults to enroll themselves at the ALS.
Governor Fongwan also stressed that that education can help eradicate poverty, and that education, through the ALS, can help improve lives. (JDP/PEQ-PIA CAR)
