‘Helen’ moves away from Phl; public storm warning signals lifted
QUEZON CITY, Aug 16 (PIA) -- Tropical Storm “Helen” has accelerated further as it moves away from the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 4 a.m. bulletin.
Pagasa said the center of tropical storm “Helen” was estimated at 290km west northwest of Laoag City.
Helen has maximum sustained winds of 85kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph. It is forecasted to move west northwest at 24 kph.
The storm will be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) or at 530 km West Northwest of Laoag City this afternoon.
Pagasa already lifted all public storm warning signals in the country.
Though the storm continue to move away from the country, Pagasa said this disturbance will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rains and moderate to strong winds over Luzon and Western Visayas. (PIA-GHQ)
