Phl embassy in Kuala Lumpur organizes fund drive for flood victims

MANILA, Aug 9 (PIA) -- The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) that it organized a fund drive among its officers and staff for the victims of Typhoon Gener (international name Saola) and the effects of the southwest monsoon, which affected the country.

“The Filipino spirit of bayanihan lives on among us Filipinos, even if we are far from home. Embassy officers and staff did not hesitate to dig into their pockets to help out those in need,” Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia J. Eduardo Malaya said.

A press statement from the DFA said the donation, totaling RM1,100 (around P15,400) were turned over to Social Welfare Attache Bernard Bonina, for onward transmittal to the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Manila.

DFA said the embassy also put up a wall post in its Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/PhlembassyKL, to encourage members of the Filipino community in Malaysia to donate to the cause. According to latest reports, the typhoon and monsoon rains left 23 dead and left areas in Metro Manila and Luzon flooded. (DFA)
