More Filipinos arrive home from Syria as violence continues
MANILA, April 27 -- The Philippine Embassy in Damascus’ repatriation operations continue with a total of 23 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) repatriated from April 21 to 26, said the Department of Foreign Affairs.
According to a press release by the DFA, 23 more will arrive today, April 27.
A five-man augmentation team composed of Manila-based personnel was also sent to Syria to help in the repatriation efforts. This is in addition to the Rapid Response Team earlier sent by the Philippine Government.
Alert level 4, which calls for the mandatory repatriation of all Filipinos, remains in effect over Syria in light of the continuing violence in the country which has claimed thousands of lives.
Concerned relatives of OFWs in Syria are urged to provide the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers' Affairs (DFA-OUMWA) with relevant information regarding their loved ones' whereabouts and their contact numbers by calling (02) 834-3245 or (02) 834-3240. (DFA)
