Heritage project sets activities for young Cebuanos

CEBU CITY, May 25 (PIA) --Seven local museums here partnered with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund (DACF) for the "Gabii sa Kabilin" or Night of Heritage held today, May 25.

Under the partnership, Casa Gorordo Museum is spearheading kid-friendly activities during the Gabii sa Kabilin from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the same day.

Said activity will be undertaken interactively and Cebuano participants are expected to have fun while learning about their Cebuano heritage.

To encourage children to experience as many activities as possible, DACF will be issuing “Passports to Heritage.” Every activity that the children complete entitles them to an official museum stamp.

Children who get five or more stamps have until June 15 to bring their passports to Casa Gorordo Museum and receive a special Heritage Champion pin.

Interested participants can avail of said passports at the following locations on the night of Gabii sa Kabilin: Casa Gorordo Museum, Fort San Pedro, Sacred Heart Parish Church, and Ayala Center Cebu (free for children with tickets).

Children above seven years old must have a ticket and must be accompanied by an adult.

These are the following activities planned for the Night of Heritage: storytelling, carroza decorating, bugsay (paddle) making demonstration at Casa Gorordo Museum; storytelling at Cebu City Public Library; beadwork and rosary-making at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral; sungka game (7 p.m.-9 p.m.) at Fort San Pedro; lukay art at Cebu Normal University; weaving and hat making at the Ayala Center Cebu; calligraphy demonstration, hands-on calligraphy for P20.00 at 8 p.m. at Fo Guang Shan Chu Un Temple; and Chinese paper cutting and calligraphy at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m at Sacred Heart Parish Church.
