Police hunts down 2nd suspect in the Abad killing

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija, Feb. 11 (PIA) -- Carranglan Mayor Restituto Abad died Wednesday, five days after he and his security aid were ambushed in Guimba town.

 

Abad suffered from severe gunshot wounds after he and his wife, Mary were shot while on their way home in the afternoon of February 5, Saturday.

 

The police have been investigating the slay of the mayor and have been determining the motive behind the killing, according to Guimba Police Chief Ranato David.

 

His wife Mary and driver survived the incident.

 

One of the suspects, Jose Berlino Pascual Gonzales, is now under police custody and facing criminal charges at the Nueva Ecija Prosecutor's Office.

 

Accomplice and suspected gunman Jonathan Carpio remain at large.

 

Like Gonzales, police has already filed charges against Carpio.

 

Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Carmencita Natib-oc has taken over as the new mayor of Carranglan. First Councilor Efren Alfonso Jr. is expected to succeed her as vice mayor.

 

Natib-oc promised no disruption in service delivery and justice for her slain predecessor. (WLB/CCN/PIA-3)
