CITY OF BALANGA, Bataan, July 3 (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Bataan placed third in the whole country with the most number of businesses registered despite the small population of the province.

DTI-Bataan enlisted 570 businesses using the Philippine Business Registry (PBR) from July 2011 to May 2012, according to the letter commendation of DTI undersecretary Merly Cruz sent to DTI offices nationwide. Cavite topped the list with 748 registrations. Batangas followed with 655.

In Central Luzon, DTI-Bulacan followed after Bataan with 432 businesses registered in the faster business registry system, followed by Zambales with 84, Tarlac with 42, Pampanga with 40, Aurora with 30 and Nueva Ecija with two registrations.

This achievement of DTI-Bataan is in spite of the province’s population with only about 700,000 and small land area for the establishment of businesses with 1,372 square kilometers, making Bataan the smallest province in Central Luzon.

Connie Sanico, manager of DTI-Bataan’s National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center, said compliance with the order to use PBR is the secret in attaining the feat despite their inexperience in handling the system at first.

PBR is a system that integrates the services of all agencies involved in business registration such as the DTI, Securities and Exchange Commission, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Social Security System, the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG and PhilHealth.

“Even if the system is new to us, perseverance is really needed. We obeyed the order that PBR should be used,” said Sanico.

Undersecretary Cruz also commended tellers Leonora Embido and Marissa dela Cruz for adhering on the use of PBR.

“Through PBR, the applicants will not be burdened in going to different government agencies to get permits. In DTI, it will only take 10 minutes to get different permits without system problem,” said Sanico. (CLJD/JMG-PIA3)
