Miss Kalinga 2013 candidates hold outreach program
TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Feb. 5 (PIA) -– The 20 candidates for Miss Kalinga 2013 recently shared their time with the persons with disabilities (PWD) here as part of the pageant's outreach and community service program.
For the Special Education (SPED) class of Bulanao Central School, the candidates handed out snacks and two electric fans for the special children while vitamins, medicines and snacks were also given to the clients and students of the Lin-awa Center for the PWDs.
Miss Kalinga 2013 Committee Chairperson and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Provincial Director Grace Baluyan said that as an innovation for this year’s search, the candidates were given responsibilities aside from just competing for the title during the pageant night.
Several activities she said were also incorporated as part of the search to promote not only their beauty, but also their individual growth and development.
For their contribution to the preservation of the environment, a tree planting was also conducted at the provincial capital in partnership with the 501st Brigade Philippine Army.
Also incorporated in the program is the promotion of Kalinga as a potential tourist destination, where the candidates have been conducting video and photo shoots in various attraction sites like the Talama View Point and Capitol Park of Tabuk City, Awichon Cultural Heritage and Tiwod Fertility Spring in Lubuagan, among others.

Reigning Miss Earth- Air Glennifer Perrido who hails from Kalinga also gave her time for the public speaking lecture and workshop for the candidates to improve their social skills and self-discipline last January 28.
At stake for the title is a trip to Hongkong and Macau, brand new cellular phone from Globe, P20,000.00 cash and gift packs from the various sponsors. (GGD, PIA CAR-Kalinga)
