TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Aug 3 (PIA) –- Some 180 barangay tanods, volunteers, and civic groups in this city will undergo training on barangay peacekeeping to enhance their capabilities as peacekeepers.

Participants will be divided into three batches to attain a “manageable group of 60 participants to ensure the active participation of the trainees during lectures and workshops," according to Julio Barcellano of the City Local Government Operations Office (LGOO).

During the training, there will be lectures on the roles and duties of action teams as community police, orientation on the duties as first responders during disaster and crime incidents, and orientation on the special laws, among others.

Barangay tanods must ensure they will complete the course to prevent being disqualified from getting their honorarium from the city government, Barcellano said.

“None attendance to the required BPAT training could result to the dropping of any tanod in the payroll since it is part of their mandate to undergo said course to qualify and ensure their effectiveness in the field as peace keepers,” he added.

Out of the 42 barangays of Tabuk, only 16 barangays had their tanods trained on peacekeeping, Barcellano said as he urged the other 26 barangays to take advantage of the training being sponsored by the city government to enhance the capabilities of their barangay peacekeepers.
