SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Nov. 15 (PIA) -- PCSupt Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu, Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) director announced on Tuesday the newly designated officer-in-charge (OIC) of Tubao Police Station.

PSInsp Benigno C. Sumawang, Human Resource Development Division officer of La Union Provincial Police Office (Luppo) will replace PSInsp Luis Liban as OIC Chief of Police.

Liban was relieved from his position due to the deterioratin peace and order situation in the area, said PSupt Jovencio Badua Jr., OIC Regional Public Information Office-PRO1.

However, Badua told that Liban’s replacement will just be temporary as the latter will face an inquiry board organized and activated by Luppo to determine if there were lapses in discharging duties and responsibilities.

Meanwhile, PSSupt Ramon O. Purugganan of Luppo said that the existing peace and order situation in Tubao necessitates the change of leadership because of the growing number of unsolved killings and other crime incidents in the past two months where incumbent Mayor Dante Garcia was ambushed by unknown gunmen; while Atty. Lazaro Gayo, a former vice mayor of the town and an aspiring candidate for Sangguniang Panlalawigan was also gunned down.

The PRO1 is unrelenting in its drive against the rise of criminality and is keenly observing command responsibility in the region especially in the province for the assurance of safety of the public, Badua further added. (ANL/MHH-PIA 1 La Union with reports from PRO1)
