Phl Civil Service celebrates 112th Year

QUEZON CITY, May 18 (PIA) -- The Philippine Civil Service will celebrate its 112th Anniversary in September with the theme "Kawani, Ikaw Ay Isang Lingkod Bayani!" to be highlighted by the search for outstanding government worker and various competitions.

Activities include R.A.C.E to Serve II Fun Run at Quirino Grandstand on September 8, Honor Awards Program (HAP) Rites at Malacanang Palace, government choral competition at UP Theater on September 17 at 3 p.m., Give It Your Best Shot! nationwide photo contest for government employees, essay writing contest, and special treats for government employees.

The categories and prizes for the Fun Run are: 3K Distance with P1,000 for 3rd place, P2,000 for 2nd place and P3,000 for 1st place; 5K Distance with P2,000 for 3rd place, P3,000 for 2nd place and P4,000 for 1st place and finally; 10K Distance with P3,000 for 3rd place, P4,000 for 2nd place and P5,000 for 1st place.

The Honor Awards Program for the 2012 Presidential Lingkod Bayan, Dangal ng Bayan, and CSC Pagasa Awardees serves as the culmination of the search for the Outstanding Public Officials and Employees. The awards, as provided by laws, are conferred by the President.

The Government Choral Competition at the UP Theater aims to advocate Filipino culture and arts. The grand prize is P100,000, while the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd runners-up will receive P70,000, P50,000, P30,000. Four finalists will also get P15,000 each.

The Give It Your Best Shot! Nationwide Photography Contest for government employees is designed to promote the Lingkod Bayani concept among civil servants by capturing through photographs the essence of public service at its best in the Filipino’s everyday life. The contest is open to all public servants/government employees regardless of appointment status – except employees of the Civil Service Commission and all other government employees affiliated with the National Press Club (NPC) and Press Photographers of the Philippines (PPP).

First, second and third place winners will be rewarded with P20,000, P10,000 and P5,000, respectively. A consolation prize of P1,000 will also be given to the Top 10 finalists. The winning photos will be used for various publications and marketing collaterals of the CSC as well as exhibited in selected government galleries and all participants will have the chance to be featured in the various materials of the CSC and other government agencies.

The Essay Writing Contest with the theme "Lingkod Bayani Working for Gender Responsive, Accessible, Courteous, and Effective Public Service" aims to foster a deeper understanding among civil servants on the existing and emerging challenges to public service as they work for a gander responsive, accessible, courteous, and effective public service.

It also aims to create value by reflecting on the realities of women and men in the Philippine Society both for the contestants and the readers of the winning essays. Participants should be government employees except those under job orders and contracts of service. CSC employees and their relatives within 3rd degree of consanguinity are disqualified to participate. The top three winning entries has a corresponding cash prize of P30,000, P20,000 and P10,000, respectively.

Lastly, the Special Treats for Government Employees comprise of free rides on public transportation and discounts on departments stores provided by the CSC, government agencies and private companies.

The month long celebration aims to promote, showcase, and celebrate heroism in public service and to highlight stories of triumph and sacrifice among government employees.
