Environment resource officers' convention to tackle climate change

QUEZON CITY, July 6 (PIA) -- The Philippine League of Local Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PLLENRO) will hold its 2012 National Convention from Aug. 8 to 10 at Tagum City, Davao Del Norte to address greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

With the theme “PLLENRO: Pioneers Local Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Management to Address Climate Change,” the convention is expected to be attended by over 300 local environment and natural resources officers.

Guests will include local government units, who will share their experiences in their GHG inventory, and international experts, who will discuss GHG inventory management to help ENROs prepare their “Local Climate Change Action Plans.”

GHGs are chemical compounds found in the earth’s atmosphere.

They absorb and trap solar heat which is reflected back to the atmosphere, causing increase in global temperature.

The United States Energy Information Administration reported that GHG emissions have increased by the 25 percent.

This increase in GHGs has caused global warming and changes in climate conditions.
