Kabisig govt expo starts today

QUEZON CITY, June 11 -- Kabisig is holding a “Kabisig Government Expo and Trade Fair 2012” at the Events Center of SM City Fairview for the 114th Philippine Independence celebration starting today.

The free expo will have Bureau of Customs (BOC) commissioner Rufino Biazon as guest of honor and speaker to represent Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III on its opening.

With the theme “Kapit-bisig sa Matuwid na Daan: Gabay sa Kaunlaran,” the expo is a one-stop information exhibit of the services and accomplishments of government agencies and instrumentalities including, government-owned and- controlled corporation (GOCCs).

This project is in partnership with the UP Grand Order of the Eagles Alumni Association, Inc. and the JCI Central Davao, Inc.

The Kabisig program was created by virtue of a Presidential Proclamation No. 650 in 1990. It is mandated to facilitate and monitor the implementation of government programs. Aside from this, it also provides linkages between the private sector and government agencies.

Kabisig chairman Daniel Carandang Guillen said through the information exhibit and trade fair will enable the public learn good news about government programs not usually reported by the media.

He said that sometimes the public reads about a government agency only when an anomaly is discovered or when its officials are linked to graft and corruption.

Meanwhile, Pres. Aquino lauded Kabisig effort to inform the public of the programs and accomplishments of the various government agencies.

“Your support inspires our public servants to continue to fulfill the mandate bestowed upon them by the Filipino people, boosting the trust and confidence of our countrymen in our government and bringing it closer to the people,” he said.

Earlier, the president issued Memorandum Circular No 12 that authorizes government departments, agencies and attached offices to extend support to the exhibits.

The following government offices set to join the expo are Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Development Academy of the Philippines, PhilHealth, Philippine Information Agency, BOC, Bureau of Corrections, National Development Company, National Police Commission, Pag-IBIG Fund, PhilMech, PhilRice, Commission on Higher Education, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, TAPI-DOST, PhilPost, National Kidney Transplant Institute, National Housing Authority, National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation, National Agricultural and Fishery Council and National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
