TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Jan. 10 (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is now paying the salaries of workers hired under the Government Internship Program (GIP) in the province.

Under the program, DSWD hired 350 students, out-of-school youths, and young professionals for emergency employment last May-June 2012, under the government’s efforts to help provide income sources to the country’s unemployed.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (PSWDO) Digna Dalutag said those hired rendered various working periods of 42 to 60 days at a daily wage of P272.

Dalutag said the 350 GIP slots given to Kalinga were distributed to the province’s seven towns and Tabuk City. Most of them worked as aids to DSWD’s prime programs on Pantawid, core shelter, youth organizing, and distribution of social pensions.

As basis for the computation of salaries, those hired are required to submit weekly accomplishment reports that will also serve as monitoring system of DSWD programs in the areas.

The PSWDO requires those who are sending representatives to claim their salaries to present duly signed authorization letters.(JDP/LL-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
