TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Aug 7 (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) will launch here this month two municipal food terminal centers and three barangay food terminal projects under its Agrikulturang Pinoy Program.

Program Coordinator Teresa Desay of the Office of Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) said the five projects include Cudal Municipal Food Terminal Center for P1 million; Bulanao Norte Municipal Food Terminal Center – P500,000, Apatan Barangay Food Terminal Project – P200,000 Bulo-Borobor Barangay Food Terminal Project – P200,000 and Tanudan Savings & Lending Cooperative Barangay Food Terminal Project for P200,000.

The food terminals serve as food depot and distribution outlets in the community offering affordable, safe and quality food products like meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, fruits and basic commodities.

The program is a continuation of DA’s barangay bagsakan project where proponent farmer associations and cooperatives get financial aid for livelihood projects.

It is a marketing support to farmers, at the same time, an offer for cheaper farm products to low-income consumers in the rural communities, Desay said.

Except for Bulanao Norte food terminal center which is a carry-over project of 2011, the others are under DA’s 2012 food terminal projects.(JDP/LL- PIA CAR,Kalinga)
