PINUKPUK, Kalinga, Aug 2 (PIA) -- Police personnel in this municipality had their tree-planting project in Barangay Taga over the weekend in support of the town’s Greening Program.

The group planted gmelina and mahogany tree seedlings along the national road in Barangay Taga here, one of the identified sites of the greening project.

According to Pinukpuk Police Chief Inspector Gemma Braganza, the project is one of the regular activities of the station under its Police Community Relation (PCR), which has contributed largely in the maintenance of peace and order in the place.

As a component of the project, Braganza said the police station had developed a nursery where they propagate their own tree seedlings so they no longer depend on other agencies for supply.

“Anytime that we want to undertake tree planting, we could readily do so with our available supply of tree seedlings,” Braganza said.

To assure good survival of seedlings planted, planting areas are regularly visited She reported that many of the seedlings earlier planted are already growing.

She called on the community to be involved in the project by keeping watch over their cattle, after hearing reports that some growing seedlings were destroyed by carabaos grazing in the area.(JDP/LL- PIA CAR, Kalinga)
