Prov to launch “I am ready” drive on disaster month
TABUK CITY, Kalinga, July 2 (PIA) -- The province is set to launch “I am ready” drive to mark the observance of National Disaster Awareness Month this July with the theme, "Ligtas na Bayan, Maunlad na Pamayanan."
Rescue and relief teams of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Monitoring Council (PDRRMC) will go around schools and barangays to conduct lectures and trainings on disaster preparedness and rescue and relief techniques as major activity.
Gov. Jocel C. Baac, chair of the PDRRMC said enhancing people’s consciousness in disaster preparedness is crucial in the prevention and mitigation of the effects of climatic crisis.
"There is no better way of protecting our people from floods, slides and other hazards brought by typhoons than making them aware and ready on what to do when these situations arise," Baac said.
Part of the consciousness campaign for the month is educating the residents, particularly those living near the Chico river and slide-prone areas to obey advisories from authorities on voluntarily evacuating their homes to safer shelters to avoid further injuries and loss of lives.
For immediate monitoring and action, Baac ordered other local disaster councils here to stay ready and alert as they are assured of full support from the provincial government through the PDRRMC. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
