TABUK CITY, Kalinga, June 7 (PIA) -– For utilizing some funds allotted to the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Dagupan West Barangay Council on a scholarship program, SK Chair Jasper Canindo received informal citation from various sectors, here.

In 2011, Canindo used P7,600 of his SK allotment to pay the miscellaneous fees of 14 indigent high school students, including computer fees of some of them who were enrolled in the science class.

Beneficiaries of the “SK scholarship grant” are residents of Dagupan West studying at the Tabuk City National High School (TNHS), who only need to pay miscellaneous and some other fees since tuition fee is free.

Dagupan West Punong Barangay Antonio Bonilla explained the use of the SK fund for purposes of scholarship proposed by barangay SK chair Canindo passed regular approval of the barangay council.

Department of Interior and Local Government Assistant Provincial Director Julio Barcellano expressed appreciation to the initiative of Canindo and considered it as exemplary since SK projects are usually associated with sports.

At his young age, Canindo could already think of noble programs to serve small people in their barangay, Barcellano noted.

According to Punong Barangay Bonilla, the barangay council is accepting applicants to the 2013 list of beneficiaries, who should be properly enrolled at TNHS, from poor families and residents of Barangay Dagupan West.(JDP/LL- PIA CAR,Kalinga)
