TABUK CITY, Kalinga, June 2 (PIA) -– Tabuk City Mayor Ferdinand B. Tubban rallied the public to work for clean surroundings such as roadsides, canals and waterways, as part of preparation for the city’s 11th Matagoan Festival this month.

Officials and residents of the city are mobilized to clean their surroundings as support to the principle of Matagoan, making Tabuk a "zone of life."

Tubban explained there can be real spirit of the celebration, "if we see our place ideal for life and this is demonstrated by having clean surroundings."

He added that maintaining a clean environment protects school children from mosquito-borne diseases with the onset of the rainy season.

Tabuk is considered as an endemic area of dengue, where most of the suspected cases in 2011 come from, based on data of the provincial health office.

"Being a zone of life, Tabuk should be free from all health hazards," Tubban said, adding that these can be achieved if officials and residents all join hands and work together towards that aim.

As support, Punong Barangay Castor Cayaba of Poblacion Centro, called for massive implementation of “Tapat ko, Linis ko” campaign urging all residents to take part in the clearing drive.

The activities include cutting of grasses on roadsides, collecting wastes and garbage dumped into the canals and water passages, particularly at public areas around the city. (JDP/LL- PIA CAR,Kalinga)
