Government internship program in Kalinga employs 400 youth
TABUK CITY, Kalinga, May 18 (PIA) -- The Government Internship Program here has provided employment to 400 youth through its emergency employment program.
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (PSWDO) Digna Dalutag said the said youth 400 are distributed in the 7 municipalities and the city of Tabuk in Kalinga and will work for 52 days with a daily wage of P272, starting May 14.
But according to her, hired college students who are going back to school in June are not required to complete the 52-day work contract.The slots they vacate will be awarded to other out-school-youth in the same area to complete the remaining work days, Dalutag explained.
GIP is a program offered by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to help solve problem on unemployment, at the same time, provide financial assistance to youth who are in college.
Target beneficiaries of the program are those within the 18-30 age bracket, who are willing to work as aids in the implementation of DSWD programs that include Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), social pension to senior citizens, feeding and core shelter.
As requirements, applicants who finished college were asked to present their college credentials, while students were required to present certificates of enrollment and certification of interest to go back to school for the out-of-school youth.
As basis for their salaries, Dalutag asked those hired under the program to submit weekly accomplishment reports that would also serve as monitoring system of DSWD programs in the areas. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
