Thailand provides assistance to flood victims

MANILA, Sept. 14 -- The Government of the Kingdom of Thailand donated US$100,000 to the Government of the Philippines for the victims of the southwest monsoon flooding last August.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario received the donation from Chargé d’ Affaires Thanis Na Songkhla of the Royal Thai Embassy in Manila during a turnover ceremony at the Department of Foreign Affairs on September 13, a statement from the Foreign Affairs department.

The donation will be forwarded to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Also present at the ceremony were Second Secretary Orawee Supawatin of the Thai Embassy, Executive Director Antonio Morales of the Office of the Undersecretary for Special and Ocean Concerns (OUSOC), Director Maria Anna Lilia De Vera of the Office of Asian and Pacific Affairs, and Special Assistant Jabbar Adiong of OUSOC.

Secretary del Rosario thanked the Royal Thai Government and people of Thailand for the generous and heartfelt donation. He said Thailand’s assistance “will go a long way towards helping the flood victims recover from the calamity." (DFA)
