Gov't troops planted 200 trees on their 38 founding anniv

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, August 7 (PIA) -- The Valorian troops of 36th Infantry Battalion (36IB), Philippine Army under the command of LTC Joseph Norwin Pasamonte spearheaded the “Tree Growing” activity in celebration of their 38th Founding Anniversary.

Capt. Rowel Caacbay, Civil Military Operation Officer said the activity held at the newly created Ecopark located in Barangay San Jose, Tandag City, successfully planted a total of 200 assorted fruit bearing trees in coordination with the Philippine National Police, Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPAg), Tandag Inter Fraternity and Sorority Association (TIFSA) and the barangay Council of Dayo-an, Tago.

The activity is in support to the National Greening Program of the Aquino administration aimed to plant 1.5 billion trees by 2016.

Meanwhile, Caacbay also said that prior to their 38th founding anniversary activities, the troops conducted mass feeding and free haircut services to Tabon-tabon Elementary School and Dayo-an Elementary School as well as to the local residents. A total of 368 elementary pupils and some civilian residents in the area availed the free hair cut services.

Also, in time of the celebration, 247 soldiers and their dependents received a certification from TESDA for completing their trainings on the following short courses: Meat processing; Defensive Driving; Coconut by products; Automotive Servicing and Personal Computer operations.
