Cebuano News: Palasyo naglaum, Pilipinas mupasar sa Financial Action Task Force scrutiny

SURIGAO CITY, Hunyo 8 (PIA) -- Ang Malacañang naglaom nga ang pagpasar sa duha ka mga balaodnon kalabot na sa money laundering didto sa Senado igo na nga compliance ngadto sa Financial Action Task Force (FATF) aron malikay ang nasod nga mahimong blacklisted sa international body.

Giaprubahan sa Senado niadtong Miyerkules sa ikatulo ug pinal nga pagbasa ang usa sa mga balaodnon, kini mao ang Senate Bill 3127 o ang Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012, nga motugot sa mga awtoridad nga motan-aw ngadto sa natanggong nga mga bank accounts sa suspetsadong mga terrorist groups bisag walay court order.

Ang SB 3127 nag-amendyar sa Republic Act 9160 o ang gitawag nga Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2001 nga nag-ingon nga ang Anti-Money Laundering Council awtorisado nga mopatanggong sa bisan unsa nga account human ang pagkumpirma nga adunay igong rason pagbuhat niini.

Ang Senado kinahanglan nga mopasa niining maong mga balaodnon aron ang Pilipinas dili mablacklisted sa Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Ang FATF, usa ka inter-governmental body nga nakabase sa Paris nga nagpasiugdag mga polisiya batok money laundering ug terrorist financing, ilang asisteran ang fight against money laundering sa nasod sugod karong Hunyo 18 hangtod 22.

“We hope that this would be considered by the FATF as substantial compliance. There’s a deadline set by the FATF, June 18... and the executive director of the Anti-Money Laundering Council Vicente Aquino will be going to Paris to explain our position,” sulti ni Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda atol sa press conference didto sa Malacanang kagahapon.

Pagatukion usab ni Pangulong Aquino ang proseso sa pagpasa sa duha ka mga balaodnon ug ipasabot ang kalabotan niini sa bag-ohay pa nga impeachment trial sa Supreme Court chief justice.

“And in spite of the length of time that the trial took place, we were able to pass two out of the three bills. And hopefully that will be appreciated by the FATF as substantial compliance. We hope to pass the third bill sometime around…until October. So we leave it to the AMLC to explain it to FATF,” dugang ni Lacierda.

Tugotan sa maong balaodnon ang gobyerno aron gukdon kadtong nalambigit sa mga international terrorist-financing activities. Hatagan usab niini ang gobyerno sa Pilipinas og gahum, “subject to the principle of reciprocity, consider the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism as a legal basis for requesting or granting extradition in respect of the offenses set forth under the Act.” (Susil Ragas - PIA-Surigao del Norte)
