TABUK CITY, Kalinga, July 24 (PIA) - - The Kalinga District Engineering Office (KDEO) is working double time to complete works on the P161 million Balbalan-Pinukpuk road improvement project.

Teodoro Owek, engineer, KDEO construction chief, said they required the Manila-based contractor Oscar Sarmiento Construction to use generators and extend work at night during good weather in order to finish the project on or before the project’s deadline by the end of this year.

He said working at night along the Balbalan-Pinukpuk road using a generator started last week.

“We received marching orders from DPWH Sec. Rogelio Singson to fast track on-going projects since 2013 will be a busy year for the infrastructure agency."

The improvement of the Balbalan-Pinukpuk road was funded in 2011. Other 2011 on-going projects are the Kalinga-Abra road improvement, Tabuk-Bontoc road, and Calanan-Pinukpuk national highway. Owek said the Kalinga-Abra road was given P180 million this year which was bidded out last month.

He said there are many multi-million projects lined-up for implementation next year thus they have to fast track the completion of on-going projects. The agency is set to receive an additional of more than P180 million this year, Owek disclosed.

President Aquino is targeting to have all highways paved by 2016. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
