Kalinga girl scouts join Singapore centenary camp
TABUK CITY, Kalinga, July 19 (PIA) - - Three girl scouts from Kalinga joined the recently concluded international centenary camp in Singapore, a gathering of girl scouts from many countries that converged to learn skills on helping save planet Earth.
Ghumie Pinhikan, Kalinga-Apayao Girl Scout executive, said the three girl scouts are Czarina Janelle Gabit and Danielle Tarnate of St. Tonis College, Inc., and Nicholle Buenavente of Tabuk City National High School with Prisca Kawis, principal of Ipil Elementary School as their official chaperone.
Pinhikan said the group were among 17 delegates from the Philippines; the others coming from Davao City, Bacolod, Quezon, South Cotabato, and La Union and accompanied by two other adult scouts. Eight delegates and three adults from the Kalinga-Apayao Girl Scout Council also participated in a previous international camp held in Thailand.
The week-long activity from June 4-10 was held at the Camp Christine, Moe Jalan Bahtera Campsite and Sarimbun Scout Campsite in the lion city state, the girl scout executive said.
She also said that the scouters were taught skills on capturing nature on photography by Canon, movie appreciation, farm visits, archery, and tag game meets. “They were also exposed to fashion and accessories-making like jewelry from soda tabs, jewelry holder, plastic bracelets using crocheting and paper beads necklace,” she said.
To learn the art of recycling, the scouts were also brought to recycle craft shops that make CD clocks, coin pouch milk cartons, basket weaving, plastic canisters and flowers, photo frames, and fabric flowers making.
Pinhikan said they also enjoyed food wraps and went on outdoor adventures, “More important is their bonding with other nationalities from New Zealand, Brunei, Thailand, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Papua New Guinea, USA, Panama, and Hongkong.” (PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
