PRC-Kalinga organizes blood donation action teams in vulnerable barangays
TABUK CITY, Kalinga, June 9 (PIA) -- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Kalinga Chapter is organizing action teams in vulnerable barangays to pave for the institutionalization of blood donation down to the barangay level.
Glorina Diaz, PRC Kalinga Chapter Administrator, said the barangay action teams are composed of nine health workers, a pool of 25 volunteer blood donors, and the chairman.
This transformational project is being piloted in the Barangays of Lanna, Agbannawag and Dilag particularly sitio Bayabat all of this city, and Anunang in Rizal. She said blood donor recruitment in these areas is on-going.
These areas are among other typhoon-affected barangays earlier provided relief goods, repair and rehabilitation assistance from the International Federation of the Red Cross, Red Crescent, PRC and other international Red Cross societies. A shelter project is completed in Lanna housing more than 50 families and a classroom for their children.
Diaz explained that the teams will conduct capacity building based on their needs identified through the vulnerability capacity assessment. “Vulnerable barangays undergo capacity building so they themselves could identify their needs,” Diaz said adding they need the capacity to save lives through blood donation.
“Nobody should die due to lost of blood so we have to maintain a pool of blood donors in order to have ready and available supply of blood,” Diaz said urging all potential donors to come donate.( JDP/PAB-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
