ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao, June 8 (PIA) -- A project of the Girl Scout of the Philippines (GSP) in this municipality was declared second place winner in the nationwide search for the Pilar Hidalgo Lim (PHL) Troop Achievement Award Scheme.

According to Ifugao GSP council executive Felisa Gumangan, the San Quintin Elementary School Junior Girl Scout Troop’s eco-park project was ranked next to Palawan, the overall winner of the PHL award scheme.

For this feat, the school received P35,000 as prize.

“The eco-park project in San Quintin Elementary school dubbed as 'Troop Glance' has a nursery, vegetable garden, comfortable nipa huts for visitors and a beautiful spot for gathering. It is a product of the concerted effort of the GSP troops and the community as a whole,” Gumangan said.

The project was evaluated in April by the GSP national headquarters' evaluation team before its turn-over to the community.

The council executive explained that the PHL troop achievement award scheme was conceptualized in the year 2000 to encourage girl scout troops to exemplify the GSP promise and law by becoming pro-active in the community development.

"This is to recognize the important role of the troops in their respective communities and to memorialize the significant role of Mrs. Pilar Hidalgo Lim in the formal organization of the GSP," she added.

To qualify for the award, the troop should identify a depressed community and meet the leaders to discuss the possible project, which can be carried out between the troop and the community members. (JDP/MBL – PIA CAR,Ifugao)
